39 Martin Place
This bold, modern building reflects the grandeur of its heritage neighbours and redefines connectivity and civic design
10am–4pm

About the building
Forming part of Australia’s first integrated station development, 39 Martin Place is a landmark commercial office tower above Sydney Metro’s Martin Place Station. The 28-storey tower, designed by Tzannes, is a bold architectural response to city-shaping and offers a seamless link between transport, commerce and community.
Designed in dialogue with 50 Martin Place, the monumental facade is a contemporary interpretation of the civic grandeur of its 1920s neighbour. The rhythmic, curved columns and the liquid glass of the top podium levels echo the architecture of the Commonwealth Bank, and the subtle tone and texture of the ceramic tiles respond to the granite base and terracotta blocks of the heritage-listed building.
Inside 39 Martin Place, the lobby integrates seamlessly with the metro interchange, retail and dining spaces. The tower contains premium office space and is set back from the podium, creating a rooftop terrace.
Sydney Open visitors will also be able to walk through ‘Muru Giligu’, the 67-metre pedestrian link connecting the north and south concourses of Sydney Metro Martin Place Station and its retail and dining precincts. Meaning ‘Path of Light’, with an art installation called ‘Sonic Luminescence’ that features dynamic light and sound effects triggered by time of day and foot traffic.
