BVN Architecture: Sydney Studio
See how some of Australia’s most iconic buildings are imagined, tested and made
10am–4pm

About the building
BVN is a global creative collective of architects, designers, strategists and researchers creating sustainable buildings and meaningful places for a better future. BVN’s Sydney Studio at 255 Pitt Street (an address it shares with the Hilton Hotel) is an engine room for creativity and experimentation. The studio supports a cohort of around 200 staff.
The space is a surprising transformation of a 1975 office building originally designed by Kolos & Bryant and updated in 2006 by Johnson Pilton Walker. BVN designed its workspace to be immersive, with 3D-printing robots, model makers, a VR (virtual reality) space and design workshop areas. It has no ceiling, carpet or enclosed rooms. Instead, it’s an open, mobile design lab that exposes the inner workings of the building and houses the ideas and designs that start their life here.
Sydney Open visitors can explore the working studio and watch BVN’s model makers and 3D-printing robots at work. They can also try the immersive VR and AR (augmented reality) to explore buildings before they’re built, and chat with the BVN team about how architecture shapes the city.
